Another trip to the pediatrician's office...

...but this time just for his one year shots, flu shot and lead test (standard at one year old). He had to get 5 shots, (3 in one leg and 2 in the other), and then we had to head a few doors down in the same building to the lab for them to draw blood to test his lead levels. He cried during the shots, (and so did I), but as soon as the shots were done and he was in arms, he instantly stopped. It was actually kind of humerous because once I was holding him after the shots, he immediately started pointing to his bagel and signing please for more bagel! I had brought a whole wheat bagel in a ziplock bag with us because he really likes them and I knew he might get hungry while we were there. Typical boy was happy as a lark once he had his food. ;)

Getting the blood drawn was a bit stressful for me due to some complications with finding his vein and then getting the blood to actually come out of his arm. First she put the elastic thingy (no clue what it's called so sorry) on his right arm and when that alone made him start crying I was a bit concerned for how the rest of the blood draw would go. She poked around at his little arm and then asked to see the other arm so she could see which arm she thought it would be easier to draw the blood from. So we rolled up his other sleeve and once again she put the elastic thingy on Parker's arm, (once again he was not a fan of this), and started poking around. She decided the arm she was currently poking would be better than his other arm, so she stuck the needle in and began to attempt to draw the blood. You could see the blood start to go up the little tube (once again I don't know the technical terms for any of these things so you'll have to forgive me) but it didn't go very far and didn't nearly make it into the tube far enough to make it to the syringe. After trying for several minutes without any luck she says she's going to switch back to the other arm and try to get the blood from that arm instead. At this point I'm just feeling so sorry for poor Parker being poked and proded so much in one morning! Anyway she gets his arm ready and starts to draw blood from the very arm she had started with in the very beginning. She had trouble getting blood from that arm as well but ended up getting enough for the lead test. I was thrilled when it was finally over and I could take my poor baby boy home to relax and rest.

I anticipated today being filled with a super grumpy and/or sleepy baby due to all of the shots and the blood being drawn but he was super happy all day long and only took one 45 minute nap the whole day. When he was awake he played just like his normal happy self! :) Hopefully tomorrow goes just as well and he doesn't wake up sore or anything!
