September 16, 2010- Bed vs. Floor
For some reason, probably starting a couple of weeks or so ago (a couple of weeks before September 16th that is), there would be 1-2 times per week that Parker would fall asleep on his floor instead of in his bed. He would always start out in his bed, would talk in his room just like normal before he typically fell asleep in his bed, but then when I would go to close his door after he was asleep, I would look in and see him asleep on his floor instead of in his bed. The very first time it happened, I got really freaked out when I looked in his room and he wasn't in his bed! There was an instantly a sense of terror that went through me as I pictured a lame Lifetime movie (that I would shamefully watch) being made based on our family and our son being kidnapped from his bed during nap time, lol! When he would fall asleep like this, we tried asking him several times, why he slept on his floor instead of in his bed. His reason?..."Because my not sleep in my bed." He was apparently still trying to figure out how to explain WHY he did it. He did this for about a month about 1-2 times per week and we didn't know why. Then one day when we asked him, he said that he slept on the floor because he was pooping, haha! I think for whatever reason, he didn't like to poop in his bed so when he knew he was about to poop, he'd move to the floor and would then just fall asleep there. He doesn't fall asleep on the floor anymore because we have made it clear that he should tell us when he poops so we can change it and he can sleep better. Now when he poops, I hear, "I pooped, mommy. I pooped, mommy." repeatedly until I get up there to change his diaper. He has known for a long time when he poops and pees but that knowledge has unfortunately not made him any more eager to go in the toilet instead of in his diaper. I'm not rushing it though...I'm hoping if I continue to wait and follow his cues, that when he DOES really want to do it, it will be easy peasy and not a power struggle or ME being the one to have to take him to the bathroom every half hour and he'll just do it on his own.
