Potty Training Update

Well after all the hype about thinking about starting full fledged potty training next week, we've decided to hold off a little bit longer. The interest is definitely there for Parker and who wouldn't want their kid to be potty trained so they didn't have diapers to change, but we think he's just not quite ready for "aggressive" (for lack of a better word) potty training. Although he asks us several times/day if he can sit on the potty chair and USUALLY says he wants to go if we ask him, he still doesn't ALWAYS want to go. There is usually about 1-2 times per day when I'll ask him if he wants to sit on the potty and he says "no". When he says "no" we don't make him sit on it, but in full out potty training mode, sitting on the potty wouldn't always be optional (you can't have your kid peeing in the middle of a store just because they "didn't want" to try to go potty...). I'd rather avoid this battle (and peeing in the middle of the store) if I can help it. I'm aware that I won't be able to completely avoid this battle as I'm sure there will be plenty of times I end up having to take Parker to the bathroom at a time/in a place where he'd rather not go. He also can't fully pull his pants up and down on his own yet. He gets the front pulled up pretty well, but has trouble reaching back and pulling the back of the pants up. Oh, and although he wakes up dry from his nap a couple times per week, he still doesn't wake up dry from his nap EVERY day. Anyway, I was looking forward to him being potty trained and loved the interest he was showing, but we think he's just not quite ready yet. We're going to continue to encourage him sitting on the potty and keep talking about it and hopefully his interest will only grow and he'll get more of the physical potty training readiness cues down so we can start the "real" potty training...
