Dishes

Parker and I have a pretty regular lunch/nap time routine down and Parker knows it well. Typically by the time he is done with lunch (usually around 12:30) I have just enough time to do whatever dishes need to be done while he plays for a little while before it's time for him to clean up and head up for nap time (usually about 1:00). Sometimes I get lazy and just don't feel like taking care of the dishes before Parker goes upstairs for his nap so I do other things and we still go upstairs for his nap at about 1:00. The other day (after I had already told Parker that in 2 minutes it would be time for him to clean up and get ready to go upstairs for nap time) we had this discussion:

Me: "Parker, it's time to clean up and go upstairs for nap time."

Parker: "I want to play for 2 minutes"

Me: "No, Parker you already had 2 minutes, it's time to clean up and go upstairs for book and nap time."

Parker: "I want to play for 2 more minutes...go do dishes, mommy."

--I busted up laughing (probably not the best response)! Of course he didn't mean it in a mean or sexist way or anything (he's only 2 years old), but it just sounded too funny! I think it's hilarious that he knows the routine so well that he uses it to his advantage to try to allow for more time to play! Well, it worked...I thought, 'ya know what...I'll feel much better if I just get these dishes done than if I wait and I later have to do lunch and dinner dishes together'. He got his extra playtime, I got the dishes done and I got a good laugh too! :)
