Story Time...

Just wanted to tell a few stories of things Parker has been doing lately...

First: I was reading Parker a book the other day that didn't have any words, (I believe it was called "Find the Duck" or "Where's the Duck?" or something like that). The book was just different pictures of a little yellow duck hiding in each page. The first time I read it, I would ask Parker on each page, "Where's the duck?". Sometimes if we ask him where certain things are located in books he will point to them but he doesn't always cooperate. He either didn't want to cooperate or he couldn't find where the duck was in the picture, so I'd still ask on every page but would then point to where the duck was and say, "There's the duck!". He wanted to read the book right after we had just read it, (no big surprise there...he IS a toddler afterall), so we read it again and I asked again where the duck was on each page. This time, I'd ask and he was able to find the hidden duck and point to it on 3 or 4 of the pages!! Here is a pic of a couple of pages in the book so you can get an idea of how well hidden the duck is (for a 13 month old).

Second: I was reading Parker a book that had pictures of kids and babies in it. There was a page that had a little boy on it that was sitting, but in the picture you could only see the very top of his leg. Parker pointed to the little boy's leg and said "leg" over and over and then pointed to his own leg and said "leg". He says leg a lot these days but I was just shocked that he knew that was the boy's leg in the book when you could only see a tiny bit of his leg! Here is a pic of the page with the boy that Parker pointed to his leg. There is just a little bit of his shorts and then a little bit of his leg showing. He pointed to the boy's left leg (so what would appear to be the right leg in the pic)

Third: Well this isn't really a story but I just wanted to say that Parker has been standing at doors and trying to turn the knob lately! It's really cute so I'm hoping to get a picture of it soon! he especially does it when he sees someone he knows well go out a door and he wants to go see them!

Fourth: Ever since Parker's haircut, his hair has not been wanting to lay right and has been sticking out all over the place. We bought some kid detangler to try to tame his crazy hair! We have been using it right before we leave the house to go somewhere. I recently started keeping it in a side pocket of the diaper bag so we would have it with us when we're out and about and Parker's hair gets crazy from falling asleep in his carseat. Now, before we leave to go somewhere, (usually when I'm getting Parker's jacket on and he can tell we're going to go somewhere), he points to and reaches for the detangler and then starts stroking his hair like he's trying to remind me to use the detangler before we leave. What a smart, sweet boy I have! :)

  1. I might have to buy some detangler for Kylie, that's a good idea. Her hair and skin is so dry that I only give her a bath twice a week and when I do, I have to put conditioner in her hair. Otherwise it's so dry and it curls up into frizz balls if I wash it too much. I might have to try detangler or leave in conditioner.

Parker sounds like such a sweet little boy. I'm sorry we missed you on Easter!

  2. The detangler has really helped Parker's hair. Just a tip though, put it on her quite a while before you plan on going anywhere...if Parker's hair is still wet from it when we put him in the carseat, it sometimes gets messed up in the carseat and kind of sticks that way from the detangler. If we put it on shortly after he wakes up for the day and he has time for it to dry before we leave, it usually keeps his hair from getting too crazy. :)
